SLB (NYSE:SLB) Awarded Offshore Drilling Contracts by Mubadala Energy for Indonesia’s Tangkulo Development

SLB (NYSE: SLB), a global energy technology company, has secured multiple offshore drilling services contracts from Mubadala Energy for the Tangkulo natural gas deepwater development and related exploration and appraisal drilling in the Andaman Sea, offshore Indonesia.

The contracts, awarded through a competitive tender process, highlight the strategic importance of the Tangkulo development to Indonesia’s long-term energy security. The project aims to deliver first gas by the end of 2028.

SLB will collaborate with Mubadala Energy to provide integrated drilling and well services throughout the entire well life cycle. The scope includes directional drilling, drilling fluids, cementing, wireline, slickline, coiled tubing, well testing, mud logging, and upper and lower completions. The integrated model is designed to streamline execution while enhancing safety, reliability, and operational performance.

The project will leverage SLB’s offshore and deepwater technologies, including real-time downhole monitoring, to reduce operational risk, improve well placement, and strengthen project economics.

Abdulla Bu Ali, president director of Mubadala Energy Indonesia, stated that the contract award reflects Mubadala Energy’s strategic vision to develop Indonesia’s offshore resources responsibly and efficiently. He noted the deployment of advanced drilling technologies to support safe and efficient execution, emphasizing that the Tangkulo field is a cornerstone project in their Southeast Asia portfolio and underscores their role in supporting Indonesia’s long-term energy security and economic growth.

Sherif Shohdy, president, Asia, SLB, commented on the disciplined execution and integrated delivery required for deepwater developments. He emphasized the combination of advanced drilling technologies, real-time insights, and local expertise to support safe and efficient offshore operations and accelerate progress toward first gas.
