TORONTO, Ontario — September 3, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Enwave Energy Corporation has commissioned its new Enwave Green Heat™ Plant at the Pearl Street Energy Centre in Toronto. The plant is designed to reduce electricity demand during peak times while providing low-carbon heating and cooling.
The plant, development of which began in 2018 and broke ground in May 2023, will have a capacity of 3,600 tons of cooling and 62,000 MBH of heating once fully operational. The electrified heating will be capable of displacing carbon emissions of up to 11,600 tCO2e, equivalent to converting 10 million square feet of office space from traditional boilers to low-carbon heating.
The plant will leverage waste heat from Enwave’s Deep Lake Water Cooling (DLWC) system customers, which is then upgraded through an electrified heat pump into hot water. The expansion was supported financially by a grant from Canada’s Low Carbon Economy Fund, Champions Stream, and by the Canada Infrastructure Bank through an aggregate facility of $600M.
Carlyle Coutinho, CEO of Enwave Energy Corporation, said the plant is an example of how Enwave can contribute to the electrification of the economy. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow added that the city is grateful for Enwave’s continued partnership and approach to providing electrification solutions.
Sam Oosterhoff, Ontario’s Associate Minister of Energy-Intensive Industries, noted that the plant is an example of how innovation from Ontario’s energy industries is making the province a world leader in electrification and reliable energy generation.
