Calgary, Alberta — October 30, 2025 — Leads & Copy — The Energy Futures Lab (EFL) and TMX Group will host a hybrid event, “Why the West? Unlocking Western Canada’s Climate and Carbon Competitiveness in the Critical Minerals Value Chain,” on November 26, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. MST at the Energy Transition Centre in Calgary, as part of Canada’s Climate Week XChange, featuring a livestreamed expert panel.
Western and Northern Canada are emerging as contributors to a national critical minerals value chain, due to abundant resources and industrial capacity, with the event highlighting the recent launch of the Western Canadian Critical Materials Alliance (WCCMA), convened by the Energy Futures Lab, to align the ecosystem around a cohesive regional strategy.
While Western Canada has critical mineral reserves, gaps remain in midstream processing and refining capacity, which coordinated action and investment could address. The event connects innovators, Indigenous partners, and industry leaders to strengthen Canada’s competitiveness and climate leadership.
