COPENHAGEN, Denmark — September 3, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has made a final investment decision through its CI Advanced Bioenergy Fund I (CI ABF I) to build Nivalan Biokaasu, which will be Finland’s largest industrial biogas plant.
The investment in Nivalan Biokaasu marks CI ABF I’s third investment and its first outside of Denmark. The plant received a significant CAPEX grant from the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment in 2024. The plant is expected to produce more than 200 GWh of biomethane annually, displacing up to 38,000 tons of fossil CO2 per year.
Construction will begin in late 2025, with operations expected to start in the second half of 2027. Once operational, Nivalan Biokaasu will process over 600,000 tons of feedstock annually, converting agricultural and industrial organic waste into biomethane.
Thomas Dalsgaard, Partner at CIP, said the investment will contribute to energy security and the green energy transition, create local jobs, and drive investments across the agricultural sector and surrounding rural communities.
