Virginia American Water has requested new rates from the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) to reflect over $115 million in water and wastewater system investments. According to Laura Runkle, President of Virginia American Water, the company’s investments are geared toward replacing aging infrastructure while providing safe, clean, reliable and affordable service in compliance with environmental regulations.
The company is seeking a total annual revenue increase of approximately $21.9 million. If approved, the monthly water and wastewater bills for the average residential customer using 4,000 gallons per month would each increase by approximately $11. Interim rates may take effect around May 1, 2026, and customers will be notified by mail and on the company’s website. Virginia American Water also offers bill-paying assistance programs. More information can be found by clicking the Customer Assistance Program link under Customer Service & Billing on the company’s website. Customers can participate in the SCC’s rate review process through written comments, attendance at public input hearings, and consumer advocacy organizations.
